These dogs no longer compete with the teams and have retired
Ellie started her flyball career in 2000 after getting her from DBARC Rescue when she was 9 months old. She is a collie x whippet with a few other breeds thrown in for good measure - in other words, not entirely sure what she has in her!.
She was a 12" height dog for the Bandits 2nd team and occasionally ran in the top team. She was put off in her early years by a dog coming down her lane from another team and nearly taking out so unfortunately she could only run as a 4th dog and would not accept another dog coming down her lane until she was well clear of the jumps. She often sat on the box if there was the hint of another dog from her own team having to run again due to an error. Other than that she was always a reliable dog and enjoyed her flyball.
She had to be retired in May 2010 as her eye sight started to fail and she lost muscle over the eye sockets and when she held her ball in her mouth she could not see the jumps coming back and started to lose her way. She still occasionally comes down to training and likes to do run backs or go down to the box to retrieve her ball but she can't now do a full run as she has lost the confidence on the way back after running into the jumps.
Ellie's last award was the Chica Award which she gained in February 2008 but accumulated 48528 points in total . She still enjoys life to the full and is 13 years old now.
Mistie is a black and white border collie who was born 30th June 1998 and was reluctantly retired in August 2010 at The British Flyball Championships having competed in her final race and helping to win their division.
She took to flyball like a duck to water and had a wonderful swimmers turn on the box. She first competed early in 2000 and soon was collecting awards, her final one being the Diamond Award of 60,000 points at Fairview Farm on the 12th April 2009.
She was the height dog at 13” for the Barkshire Bandits, their top team, and it was at Daventry on the 13th June 2004 that they ran their fastest ever time of 17.02 seconds.
For a number of years “the bandits” saw off all competition but such is life we all grow older – certainly her spirit is strong but her legs are weak! She still enjoys life to the full and of course her ball.
Chewbacca (Chewie to her friends) was born in August 1998, and started her Flyball career in 2001. She joined the Bandits in 2010 and enjoyed racing with such a friendly team at the end of her career.
She always loved Flyball and let everybody know she was ready by barking non-stop! She was always happy to race in any position and happy to race for anybody, not just her owner.
She retired in September 2011, and very sadly had to be put to sleep in December 2011 after a short illness - she will be very much missed and very fondly remembered xxx.
She achieved her Ice Blue Moon Award gaining 23943 Flyball Points
